Shortly after the end of the Civil War, and some thirty-five years after the Prudence Crandall incident, the Reverend Samuel J. May published his memoirs, Some Recollections of Our Antislavery Conflict. In his memoir, May provides a detailed account of the incidents surrounding the Canterbury School.
