Dear Sir,

One or two of my Negro men have been detected with a filthy substance in a phyal–they say it was obtained from a negro man called Doctor Jim, the property [of] David S. Garland living at Claypool under the direction of (illegible) Nowell for the purpose of administering it to Robt. Mitchell or myself in some way, as opportunity might offer–I solicit a warrant under your hand for the apprehension and examination of the said Doctor Jim that he may be dealt with agreeable to law–my Fellows shall attend to be dealt with, as you may direct–Robert Mitchell will attend in behalf of [me].

Yours respectfully,

Tho. Massie.
