Treasures from the Yale Film Archive: AMISTAD, 20th Anniversary Screening featuring an Introduction by GLC Postdoctoral Associate Joseph Yannielli

Join the Yale Film Studies Center for a 20th anniversary screening of Steven Spielberg’s AMISTAD, based on events that took place in New Haven, with an introduction by historian Joseph Yannielli. The stellar cast includes Morgan Freeman, Anthony Hopkins, Djimon Hounsou, Matthew McConaughey, Nigel Hawthorne, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Pete Postlethwaite, Stellan Skarsgård, and Anna Paquin. AMISTAD received four Academy Award nominations, and was described by critic James Berardinelli as “thematically rich, impecably crafted, and intellectually stimulating.” 35mm print from the Yale Film Archive.

Joseph Yannielli is a Postdoctoral Associate at the Gilder Lehrman Center for the Study of Slavery, Resistance, and Abolition, and the author of the forthcoming book The Mendi Mission: Africa and the Abolition of Slavery.
